I am excited to announce the second iteration of Peace Making We! The painting was on exhibit Friday October 9th, 2015 through December 13th, 2015 at The White Cube Gallery at Naropa University for the exhibit Line. Viewers added their comments and drawings directly to the painting during the course of the exhibit. You can view participant comments via twitter @jdaveyartist or facebook at jenniferdaveyart using the hashtag #PeaceMakingWe.
From November 21st, 2014 to January 3rd, 2015 I opened up an aspect of my studio practice to the public for the exhibit Incite Insight. I was inpsired to share with the public the sense of transformation I experience when making a painting. I use writing in my paintings as a specific tool to alter the way I think and feel. This allows me to transform those parts of myself that are argumentative, judgmental, or neglected. I asked the public to become part of this process by contributing their thoughts to the painting Peace Making We. The power of visitors collective messages built up on the surface of the painting Peace Making We over the course of the exhibit. At the end of the exhibit, I brought the painting back to my studio and completed it as I would if I had written on it in the privacy of my own studio.
